Titian Assists ROTA Volunteers Sharing Nursing Knowledge in Klaten

Titian Foundation was again happy to assist Reach Out To Asia – Qatar Foundation in their volunteer activities on February 18th to 23rd 2017. This year the volunteers were nursing students from Calgary University – Qatar. A total of 20 students and 2 lecturers were very enthusiastic in sharing knowledge and skills at the SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Klaten Tengah vocational school.

The activities started with community service and rearranging the Mini Hospital, which is used as a practice facility for nursing students. The school have had previously repainted the walls and repaired the ventilation installation in the room. The volunteers also provided some equipment, such as mannequin for physical examination, CPR dummy, patient beds and other supporting equipment that are useful in facilitating the teaching and learning practices. From Monday to Thursday, February 20th to 23rd, 2017, as many as 104 students, from Grade 10 to 12, of the nursing major were divided into 4 groups and got alternate sessions on topics such as: Health Assessment, Nursing of Families, Nursing Research and Professionalism & Legal Issues. The session materials had been carefully selected and tailored to the needs of students to increase students’ knowledge and skills.

The five-day activities were considered very brief for all those involved: students, teachers, the principal and even the volunteers themselves. Tears were shed as the volunteers said goodbye on their last day with the school, having established a strong rapport with the students. The school’s principal, Ibu Lestari, expressed her deep gratitude and appreciation, especially to Titian Foundation for facilitating this valuable activity. (FD)
