“You Only Live Once So Make It Meaningful”, is the theme raised in the Scholarship Orientation Period (MOB) of Generation 10. The event was held on Sunday, August 6th, 2017 at Titian CLC in Bayat. Acting as the MOB Committee, Gen 9, chose this theme inspired by the life of a banana tree, because it won’t die before bearing fruit. With this theme, it is expected that Gen 10 who have been accepted into the Titian family can grow and give meaning for their communities. The Committee divided the 78 scholarship recipients into 8 groups and named them as local banana varieties such as Ambon, Tanduk, etc.
Titian Staff and Scholarship Facilitators took turns giving an introduction of Titian’s history, the Scholarship Programme and detailed explanations of activities it would entail. In addition, the Committee facilitated several games that aim to train cohesiveness, communication and cooperation among fellow Gen 10 students. At the end of each activity, the groups are given an opportunity to show their talent in front of the Committee, staff and fellow scholarship recipients.
Laughter and excitement could be seen on the faces of Gen 10 students, the Committee and staff. It certainly cured any sense of weariness as the Committee spent one month preparing this event, while at the same time having to adjust to recent Education Ministry policy changing the previous six-day school system into only five days. The chosen theme felt very appropriate with the conditions that must be gone through by Titian scholarship recipients, which explains its slogan: ‘Keep the spirit to chase our dreams’. (FD)
