A few months after the 2018 Lombok Earthquake, Titian staff came to my school to offer students the opportunity to get scholarships.

I was called by my teacher to register, and after that I went through several stages of selection. At the beginning of Titian’s mentoring programme, I was shy. However, now I am more disciplined, confident in making decisions, able to think creatively, and becoming more independent. Since receiving education from Titian, I have been able to arrange priorities in my life and carry out my responsibilities in daily life. The main things that inspire me the most are being taught to focus on the initial goal, always listen to other people’s suggestions and stay passionate about achieving our dreams. Every time we do activities at Titian CLC (Community Learning Centre), I always reminded by the facilitators to do positive activities and also do good things. The facilitators also directed us to find inspiration from some figures that we like. Inspired by several movies and also loving my own country, I want to become a soldier. I am willing to apply all the knowledge I have learned at Titian because it has changed my life. I also actively teach in elementary schools and also teach scouts. Three years have passed, I initially never thought about going to college but now I have the courage to make the decision to be a college student I also got accepted in the Department of Development Economics, University of Mataram.

Growing up, processing and learning with Titian Foundation is a pride and good fortune for me, because Titian is not just a foundation that shelters us, the teenagers who want to go to school, but Titian is a place for us to gain wider knowledge.

I have learned so many lessons and experiences while studying and joining the Titian Foundation big family. All the lessons and experiences that Titian gave I never got anywhere, even at school. There are so many activities at Titian that gave positive impact on me, opened my horizons wider and inspired me to be able to do positive and useful things. In the past, I never dreamed of being able to go to college until at this point I managed to pass the SBMPTN selection and I got accepted at UNRAM, a university of my dreams which is also one of the best universities in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, all thanks to mentorship and guidance from Titian. At Titian, I met a lot of great people, friends who are always enthusiastic to pursue dreams and facilitators who have always been our friend in the process, listening to our life stories, providing the best solution for every problem we face, and continuing to inspire us to achieve our dreams in order to create a better life.Thank you Titian Foundation, thank you Titian friends, thank you Titian facilitators and thank you for all people who have put their trust in me so that with that trust I have managed to get to this point to be a better version of myself.

Being able to process with Titian is a blessing and pride for me because I got friends and mentors who are always ready to listen to what my heart says.

We can also exchange ideas and share with each other. Together we plan the future from now on, together we learn new things and support each other. At first, I was hesitant and afraid to become a more courageous person, as well as to convince myself in decision making that turned out to be very influential for me in the future. Titian always gives me positive energy. Currently, I am continuing my education at Diponegoro University in the Department of Indonesian Literature, I am very happy to have the opportunity to study in a field that I love which is writing, that way I can learn more about my hobby. Now, I am also a member of the KMSI (Indonesian Literature Student Family) student organization as general secretary. The knowledge I gained during the process at Titian made me more confident and easy to get along with new friends.

Titian taught me that winners not only come from the privileged ones but winners rise when we can beat ourselves in the past.

I currently live in Japan, my biggest goal is to bridge and provide opportunities to my family and fellow ceramic makers in Klaten and Jogja through knowledge sharing about Ceramic Crafts in Japan and creating business opportunities. I work with a ceramics company in Nagoya and currently starting a moslem wear business in Japan.

With Titian’s guidance, I could open my mind and continue my study through Titian scholarship. Thanks to Titian, I was able to grant my wish to study.

After graduating from STTN-BATAN Yogyakarta, I worked as an intern at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs. I am currently still working at the Ministry. I learn from so many people there. Some of the projects that I am currently participating in and also have participated at the Ministry are the South of West Java Development Project, the Jabodetabek LRT Project, and the Trans Sumatra Toll Road Project. Titian is the one that makes me excited to go forward and dare to dream.

Titian Foundation is the epitome of the type of organisation we want to work with.

From day one, we were delighted with our collaboration, but more importantly, several months and now years down the line we are even more impressed with the progress and quantifiable change to the lives of Titian’s beneficiaries. For CLSA staff and the Chairman’s Trust, Titian Foundation will always be an important part of our story. We hope that Titian can continue to change the lives of the youth of Indonesia, and help shape the country’s future.

After Vocational School (SMK) my parents expected me to work straight away. So, I never really thought of going to go to higher education.

Titian helped me to attend Vocational School and thanks to their support and mentoring activities, I was inspired to work hard and was rewarded with a scholarship to go to the Trisakti School of Management in Jakarta where I studied accounting (my favourite subject). The university has a close relationship with the big four accounting firms and now I’m working with one of them.

All Titian students are encouraged to dream big dreams and work hard to make them come true. Titian taught me greater self-confidence, allowing me to communicate with others and to work better either alone or within a team. It also taught me to be sensitive about what is happening around me, my community and my country. I would also like to help Titian to spread out its education activities in different areas so that higher education can be enjoyed by many more children from poor families. I want them to feel the way I feel now!

In the years that I have been involved with the scholarship programme, it has been a pleasure to witness the transformation in the students over each 3-year scholarship period.

They grow more confident, become more curious, ask more questions, their minds more open to new possibilities. With each successive batch, the students are building upon the achievements of the previous ones. I watch in wonder as they take part in national competitions and even travel overseas for international events. Importantly, they have become role models for their younger siblings and others in their villages, inspiring them to strive for a brighter future.

The TQI Training carried out by Titian Foundation is very distinct when compared to other training in which I have participated. I have been teaching for 21 years and have followed many training programmes. However, this time I was really impressed and gained many insights and great enlightenment.

TQI Training has opened new horizon in learning. It contains lots of knowledge that I have not obtained from any of the previous training. If given another chance, I would like to follow this training again. Move forward Titian!

Besides being smart, the Titian students are active in every opportunity, whether it is in the classroom, outside the classroom, or when participating in extracurricular activities.

Moreover, they are highly motivated in being involved in various school events. They are always cheerful and fun. Their behavior is exemplary and can serve as a model for their peers at school; they are willing to improve and eager to learn to face challenges.

I don’t know what to say, really, this is astonishing training. I became more patient and more relaxed after following the TQI Training by Titian Foundation. From the pedagogy materials I also gained much new knowledge. We were introduced to many fun learning and teaching methods that I can apply in school.

We also practiced how to implement these new methods. If I may suggest, please give this opportunity to all the teachers in Yogyakarta and throughout Indonesia, so that our teachers become better. TQI’s contribution is, quite simply, enormous. A big salute for Titian.

Ibu Eny Karuniawati

I got a lot of benefits from the TQI training, aside from improving my knowledge on pedagogy, social and other cognitive knowledge, it also enabled me to adapt my teaching techniques based on the needs of the children, so they can enjoy learning and get satisfactory academic results.

I hope there will be more of this training to come so that more teachers can participate and get the benefits.

Titian helped me to change my mindset that planning a future starts with doing simple things around us. We learned how to be disciplined and manage our time for school, organisation, studying, and playing.

Since the day I joined Titian until now, I have experienced a lot and received so much help. Through monthly gatherings, I learned and knew more about myself so I can assess my strengths and my weaknesses. Before, I was too shy to speak in front of people, but I became braver and more confident after I joined Titian.Titian plays a great role in networking for an internship or a job. Talking from my own experience, I’m now working in the operational department of a sharia bank headquarters. I’m very grateful for Titian’s help to reach our dreams for a better future.

Three years being with Titian gave me many things in my life: knowledge, experience, and lessons which I would not be able to get elsewhere.

The scholarship given by the Titian Foundation is very meaningful for me and my family. Titian taught me that there a more important thing than wealth, which is life experience. Before I entered the world of Titian, I felt very inferior, even just for presenting in public, yet the foundation helped me to shape my character, build my self-esteem to perform, and dare to speak in front of other people. Titian also helped me to be brave in my dreams.

I was born in a village with a minimal knowledge and experience of life in general. With Titian, I felt very grateful that I had a chance to meet amazing and very kind-hearted people. Back in those days, even though they might not know me, every time I meet Ibu Lily, the sponsors, and the associates, I always felt an energy that made me enthusiastic and motivated to keep moving forward to my future. Titian will always be the bridge for my dreams and the second home for me; the home that always accepts me and teaches me good things in my life. I feel very thankful to the Titian Foundation which has given me the chance to join back in the foundation, and to guide the amazing children of the foundation’s scholarship students.

Titian really gave me guidance and direction. Titian taught me to plan and set targets that I have to achieve, which were foreign to me before I joined Titian.

Titian encouraged me to be enthusiastic and believe that economic limitations should not make us give up easily and succumb to the situation. I became more confident and could adapt well with people after I joined Titian.

The existence the alumni association is a helpful medium to maintain the ties and for sharing of information, including job vacancies. Through Titian’s network, I had a chance to do an internship at Heyokha Research Indonesia, where I realized that maintaining a network and communication are very important for our future career development, and now, I’m working at PT. Sucor Sekuritas as a tax accountant.

Not only did Titian give me a scholarship, but also helped and trained me to be a better person—a well-planned, disciplined and responsible person.

Every time I hear the name ‘Titian Foundation’, I always remember a proverb saying, ‘instead of giving a man a fish, teach him how to fish’. I feel that I got both from Titian. Not only did Titian give me a scholarship, but also helped and trained me to be a better person—a well-planned, disciplined, and responsible person. All of these traits I learned through mandatory activities conducted in Titian such as mentoring, monthly report writing, organizing gatherings and periodical evaluations to name a few. It indeed helped me a lot when I was doing my final project in college and I’m able to complete it exactly as I set in my timeline.

Titian has an amazing network with great people out there. I was one of them who felt the positive impact of Titian’s network. I hope many other Klaten children can experience the good effects of Titian programmes like me.

In Titian, I found a new family. Besides receiving a scholarship for school, I also gained motivation to face the world after graduation.

I was also educated by the hardships of life, where I had to take on the role of head of the family from a very young age which made me once thought that I could only attend school up to junior high. After graduated from school, I had an 11-year career at PT. Astra Otoparts, and now I am achieving my dream of becoming an entrepreneur and creating jobs for others while continuing my career in the Pertamina Division.

In this era of demographic bonus, I hope that all of us Titian students can become mentors for the younger generation so that we can be a part of a solution-oriented youth generation, a generation that can face and solve problems.
