After a series of training sessions to enhance their teaching abilities, at the end of the programme, the teachers who benefited from the TQI (Teacher Quality Improvement) Titian program successfully completed the collaborative writing of a book titled ‘Mengajar Dengan Hati: Untaian Inspiratif Para Pendidik’ (Teaching with Heart: Inspirational Threads of Educators). The book was launched online on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. During the online session, guest speakers such as Mr. Adi Cilik, Mrs. Kusumarwanti, Mr. Dwi Budiyanto, and Mr. St. Kartono shared their messages about education and writing, emphasizing how writing is an effort to carry forward the positive values that teachers possess. “One may be knowledgeable as high as the sky, but if they don’t write, they will be lost in history. Writing is a work for eternity.” Those words of Pramoedya Ananta Toer (an Indonesian writer) had encouraged and motivated the teachers participating in the Titian TQI programme to facilitate them in completing the book’s creation.
Before the realization of this book, the beneficiaries of the TQI programme participated in a series of Writing Camps that helped teachers improve their skills in documenting their ideas through writing. With intensive guidance from the guest speakers and the TQI team, the teachers gained more confidence in their writing abilities.
Titian Teacher Quality Improvement (TQI) programme is designed to bring new teaching ideas and techniques into Indonesian schools’ classrooms. The program aims to enhance teachers’ skills in personality development which generates more appropriate and effective learning activities. In 2021, Titian Foundation was selected as one of the organizations to receive government assistance through Program Organisasi Penggerak (POP) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). With this government support, the Titian TQI programme was implemented from 2021 to 2023.
The quality of students is greatly influenced by the quality of their teachers in understanding and delivering knowledge. With a large number of educators teaching with their hearts, students can experience a better learning environment, which will ultimately support their academic achievements.
